Mainly GIMP and I use an Olympus E-1 as well as a D7000. Both on which a 50mm lens is mainly used. AND sometimes I use a Sony compact camera! But! Let me let you in on a secret. The editing is the cheat code. Some saturation boost, some Curves adjustments, and then dodge and burn parts of the photo that needs brightening or contrast, and then add a SLIGHT subtle vignette and put this vignette layer on the Overlay blending mode. That's the kind of editing that you see on almost everything that I've posted here. Have a wonderful day and happy photographing!
